Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection (RSV)

Kia ora,

We are currently seeing high rates of Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection (RSV) in Hawke’s Bay and ECE’s have been affected. The hospital had a very busy weekend with RSV causing significant illness in children.

RSV presents as cold/flu-like symptoms but can cause more severe infections like pneumonia or bronchiolitis.

If you are seeing higher than normal absenteeism rates due to respiratory symptoms let me know.

I’ve attached further information about RSV:

As for any cold-like symptoms you should:

And the Ministry of Health advice remains the same – anyone with COVID symptoms needs to get tested (this also includes RSV and Flu).

School Holiday Hockey Coaching Sessions

Sports Gear Recycling Station

The purpose of REPLAY is to recycle used sports gear to reduce our environmental footprint and increase opportunities for children to be more physically active and enable participation in sport.

REPLAY works by collecting donations of new & used sports gear and redistributes this gear within the community primarily to local Tamariki and Rangatahi, enabling more children to be active and participate in play, physical activity, and sport by providing sports gear they would otherwise not have e.g. rugby boots, shin pads, a hockey stick, or a ball.  Sports gear is received via collection bins located at various nominated sites across the district, checked, sorted, cleaned then the equipment is redistributed within the community.  Distribution is prioritised to support primary schools, early childhood centres, community organisations, and groups (assisting children and families).  Please get in contact with me directly should you identify a need for equipment for any upcoming active projects or initiatives, team or school activities.

Launching this week Central Hawke’s Bay now has three collection sites, where community can donate equipment they no longer need or want:

Centralines Sports Complex (permanent)

Waipawa Library (Term 2)

CHB College (Term 2)

‘POP-UP’ recycling station at the Central Rugby & Sports Club – Jnr Rugby Weigh in on Thursday (future ‘pop-up’ stations TBC in the coming weeks)

Any enquiries can be made to the Sport Hawke’s Bay – Central HB Facebook page
