My name is Matt Jackett, and I have the privilege of being the principal (beginning Term 4, 2024) of this wonderful school. I live in Central Hawkes Bay with my wife and two kids, on a lifestyle block with a menagerie of animals. I enjoy being active, supporting children with their learning, and being a leader in the community. Over the years I have traveled the world and have a thirst for adventures, sport and outdoor education. I have been a principal since 2017, and also enjoy leadership, politics and supporting the wider community.
Being a principal is the best job in the world because you get to help create the leaders of the future and working with children is great because they’re optimistic, quick learners, energetic, and funny!
I am passionate about creating a safe, friendly , risk taking and inspiring environment where every child feels valued and empowered to reach their full potential. Our school is not just a place for academic growth — it is a community where students are encouraged to explore, develop their talents, and learn the skills they need to become confident, compassionate, and capable individuals. In order to achieve our vision, we value the cooperation needed from all students, teachers, parents, and the Ministry of Education.
Our school community thrives on collaboration — with teachers, parents, and students working together to create an environment where children feel supported and motivated to learn. I am incredibly grateful for the trust and involvement of our parents, who play such an essential role in our school’s success. Our parent support group is an example of this. Together, we create a positive and caring atmosphere where every child has the opportunity to succeed and feel proud of their accomplishments through our PB4L system (positive behaviour for learning).
I am excited to be working with all school community members to make our school a place where children not only gain knowledge but also develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will help them thrive in the world beyond school. I invite you to explore our website and learn more about the many exciting opportunities and events that shape our school community.
Please get in touch if you have any questions via principal@waipukurau.school.nz or ring the school office to book an appointment.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for being a part of our school family. I look forward to the wonderful journey ahead!
Warm regards,
Ngā mihi nui,
Matt Jackett
